Barry Hochfield

Barry studied Applied Physics at U. of Strathclyde then pursued a 30+ year career in Computing and I.T. He worked on the original Apple Macintosh development team in California in the 80’s then founded Apple’s first ever off-shore R&D function in Paris France. While based in France, Apple University sponsored him to attend INSEAD to study their MBA curriculum. Focussing on R&D, Barry always worked in and around new product/business development eventually migrating to more strategic, commercial and general management roles. After Apple Computer, he held senior positions at Motorola and MasterCard. He has set up departments, divisions, founded/co-founded independent businesses, built teams from scratch and taken companies onto and off stock markets, and to successful exits.

He now functions as an independent consultant, non-exec director and angel investor. He chairs and mentors several new ventures and is an Enterprise Partner for U. of Strathclyde’s extensive framework of support for its alumnae and staff working in start-ups and spin-outs.   He also serves as non-exec chair on the boards of some of these companies and is involved in various investment consortia based in the Scottish central belt.

Barry brings a driven enthusiastic style to help facilitate new ventures from concept to practicality.  He can be highly creative in problem solving especially as it pertains to new product development and delivery and is named inventor on several patents. He has deep experience in architecting IT based products and services and understands how to deploy and protect a new venture’s core intellectual property. He has been successful in B-2-B marketing and sales of new products and consultancy services. He has also engineered and managed the sales processes required for new business development.
