David Byford
NXD Non-Exec
David Byford is an experienced business finance specialist with strategic focus, providing business services to clients as either a consultant or non-executive director.
After 21 years at Barclays Bank, almost exclusively in the business banking arm, David left with a wide breadth of experience of dealing with the financial needs of UK SME’s ranging from start-ups to larger corporate businesses in all types of industry sectors
He set up his own commercial finance business in 2005. This business provides broker services to SME’s in most finance sectors including secured and unsecured lending, Asset Finance, Invoice Finance and Property Finance.
Over the past five years, Alternative Lending has become an ever-increasing influence in this market place and David’s knowledge of this area of finance is strong.
Following the credit crunch in 2008, there was considerable demand for business advisory services with many SME’s struggling to obtain credit lines with lenders and suppliers alike. This required a creative and innovative approach that led David to work as a consultant and/or Non-Executive Director for a number of businesses including a golf club, a large construction group, a plant hire company, a Mobility Scooter company and a Cyber Security software firm.
David is a part owner and investor in a construction firm in Latvia and own 50% of a company that advises SME’s in M & A activity.
Training and development are also areas of great interest to him. David is an associate member of a training company base at Cambridge University and delivers courses to SME’s on subjects such as Raising Finance, Finance for Non-Financial Staff and Improving Business Financial Performance. He is not just interested in financial subjects though, David also delivers “soft skill” courses in Negotiation Skills, Presentation Skills and Time Management.
