PROFILE

Richard Hughes
NXD Non-Exec

Richard is a commercial and strategic Non-Executive Director.  He has cross-board experience helping achieve growth in SME’s and quoted, UK and international multi-site groups.

He is a proactive partner to a board and key stakeholders but equally at home on the shop floor.  He has particularly strong experience driving change, delivering and integrating acquisitions, raising finance and cost management.

Richard’s gained more than thirty years’ experience across a range of sectors, including marketing services & design, e-commerce, print & digital publishing, sport, entertainment, event management, manufacturing, education and not-for-profit.

During his career he has completed over 20 acquisitions, mergers and disposals working on each from inception, fundraising to completion.  As MD of AIM traded First Artist Corporation Plc, he oversaw expansion of the business from £4m to £65m turnover in 3 years, driving strong organic growth whilst completing 8 acquisitions, including 2 IPO/Reversals.

After leaving First Artist, Richard raised investment and acquired the UK’s leading athletics publication, Athletics Weekly, transforming the traditional print magazine into a multi-media content provider before successfully selling the business to a larger event group in 2015.

Richard now acts as a portfolio director to various SME’s looking to scale-up, advising and mentoring senior management on strategy, best practice and how to manage growth.

In addition, to his portfolio roles, Richard is a Trustee, Board and Finance Committee member of Prior’s Field School for Girls in Godalming, Surrey.

Richard is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA).
