Stephen talks about the impact NXD is having in the SME world
Stephen’s background is pre-dominantly in supply chains and logistics where he has many years of practical senior level experience. He has been on the boards of large retail businesses and managing director of 2 national contract logistics companies. He has provided complex logistics and supply chain solutions to many of the leading companies in the UK and Europe and has a real passion for building highly effective, largely demand driven, retail supply chains.
His operational background combined with a natural business development talent and extensive general management experience means he is well placed to assist a wide variety of businesses and indeed this is what he has been doing since leaving the corporate world at the end of 2007.
In 2009 he formed NXD specifically to help bring the benefits of non-execs to the SME world in a big way and now shares his time between managing and developing NXD as a business and working as a non-exec/board advisor for a number of SMEs. Stephen has a particular interest in helping start-up/early stage businesses establish themselves and prosper and also in working with mature family owned businesses helping to resolve conflict between family members and/or helping to re-vitalise stagnating businesses.
In 2011 he co-founded Venturedirector, a business specialising in providing investing directors into businesses requiring both management skills and funding. This has since been developed in a small tech fund called Boundary Capital in which Stephen retains an interest and a key involvement in helping to source the right management skills for the investee company normally utilising the NXD membership.
Along with NXD’s large and growing membership of current and previous CEO’s and MD’s who are all committed to working to add value to small and medium sized businesses, Stephen has also progressively been building a strong network of partners who can provide both niche general services geared to the SME market.
