I am an experienced non-executive director (NED), business leader and Human Resources (HR) professional with extensive experience at Board and Executive levels with SMEs and multinational organisations, across several industry sectors. With a solid background in operational HR, I also have particular expertise in delivering strategic HR which is focused on the needs of the business, particularly in business change/transition situations.
Currently I am NED for Cornelius Group PLC and Chair of the BBA Aviation PLC Pensions Consultative Committee. I am also retained by Elliptic Enterprises Ltd, providing HR consultancy services to this VC backed British start-up.
In addition, I provide mentoring and outplacement counselling for senior executives and coaching for HR executives.
My background includes a successful career at Racal Electronics (now Thales) rising through different companies within the group during periods of considerable change to become HR Director for the Defence Electronics Group with 4,000 employees and a turnover of £400m. Subsequently I held senior level positions with Bechtel, Marconi Optical Components Ltd, and BBA Aviation plc.
Working as an Interim Director, I have carried out specific business transformation projects and Board level recruitment for companies including Kodak Alaris Ltd, Wincanton plc, Yodel, the VION Food Group, Tulip UK Ltd, Intu, Hakkasan, Gate Gourmet, General Dynamics UK, BP, the Legal Services Commission, the Strategic Rail Authority, and the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority.
As well as these larger companies, I also have extensive SME experience with organisations such as Emperor Design Ltd, Protean Ltd, Stand Technologies, and the National Federation of Builders.
My specialties include change leadership and management, start-ups, mergers and acquisitions, disposals, joint ventures, company rationalisations and closures, leadership development, talent management and succession planning, strategic compensation and benefits, pensions, and performance management. Also, I have considerable experience in employee relations and trade union issues both in the UK and other European countries.
My modus operandi is based upon me challenging, supporting and exciting those with whom I work, and I am recognised and respected as both a good team leader and player with all stakeholders. I also have first class networking and influencing skills. My integrity has never been challenged and I am very experienced at successfully handling sensitive issues, whether they are one-to-one or collective.
