James is a highly experienced and commercially-focused, finance director and finance transformation and change expert with an impressive track-record of large-scale and international achievement. He operates at both strategic-advisory and hands-on operational levels and works closely with stakeholders to ensure commitment to the design and achievement of innovative and effective solutions. With a passion for the management of change, James is expert in achieving high returns-on-investment in technology through the engagement and re-skilling of people, intelligent interpretation of data and building closer and more valuable relationships between Finance and “the Business”.

He is expert in managing change, driven by technology and rapidly changing customer demand, especially the impact of “cloud” technology on operational cost-reduction and speed to achieve flexibility and business advantage. James has deep experience of most business-sectors, diverse cultures and has an engaging style with relationship management being a major-skill. He is a strong and inclusive leader with “gravitas” and although working at a senior-level, also understands the detail and is an excellent team-player.

Strategic analysis of existing Finance landscape (CFO advisory) – identifying system / process / structure and skills shortcomings, building target operating models and gaining senior-level commitment to change. Business-case development and alignment of recommendations with strategy.
Detailed requirements gathering for key processes, typically: O2C, P2P, R2R, GL, payroll, Fixed Assets, HR, project accounting, time-booking and MI.
Production of Requests for Proposals and distribution to selected vendors / Implementers – scoring of responses and final selection; gaining Board approval; implementation-programme planning and launch.
Change Management: Change impact / readiness / training needs analysis; technical and commercial training; mentoring and communications strategy and delivery. Overcoming resistance to change, soft-skills development and the exploitation of data to help deliver business-strategy.
Finance team performance transformation: Team restructuring; process re-engineering; “Fast-Close”, business-partnering; MI dashboards; spreadsheet reduction and business-partnering.
Shared-Services: creation and optimization of share-service centres using ERP: location; process establishment / change – O2C; R2R; P2P; Legal; HR; Payroll; IT development. SLAs, relationship management, costing, recharging, and people development.
Post-implementation reviews to identify further change activity that will improve the return-on-investment in ERP technology and change; additional process-optimization, team performance and the creation of centres-of excellence often being the required corrective steps.
