James is a highly experienced corporate financier having lead over 50 successful transaction in a wide variety of sectors including software, IT services, defence, manufacturing, leisure, insurance, transport, environmental, engineering, packaging, food manufacturing, building material, compliance and the service sector.

James’s early career was in the textiles industry where he worked for Jaeger as a management accountant at one of its manufacturing plans and then his family business before it was sold. Subsequently, he joined another Scottish knitwear manufacturer as Sales Director prior to leading a private equity backed MBO of his old family business with a partner.

After completing a MBA, he became a shareholder and director of a strategy and corporate finance advisory firm working with a wide variety of privately owned SMEs assisting in the development and ultimate realisation of the client companies. Over a 20 year career, he worked successfully with Owners and Directors of private businesses and has developed a specialisation in exit planning and strategic financial management as well as transaction execution.

In 2014 he joined the board of a Food Manufacturing and Packaging business as a Non-Executive Director to assist in the turnaround of the business including changing the senior management team, refinancing the company and developing a new strategic plan. Two years on the business is trading successfully, generating significant profit and continuing to expand.

James combines hands on experience of running private businesses with extensive experience acting as an advisor to SME companies ranging from early stage companies to businesses with £20m+ turnover and 250 staff.
